For many months I have been toying with the idea of having a new tattoo, something different from all my current ones, something more traditional.
I think I know what I want, and its to celebrate the life of my grandfather who died last year. He was a Royal Marine, actually he was a bandsman in the Royal Marines, and sailed on ships like the HMS Nigeria. He sailed all around the world, but I don’t know exactly how far he travelled.
According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swallow_tattoo the Swallow tattoo means you have travelled 5,000 nautical miles, if you have 2 Swallow tattoo’s you have travelled more than 10,000 nautical miles. I am going to hazard a guess that he travelled more than 10,000 nautical miles during his years as a marine, so in his memory, I want to get 2 Swallow’s tattooed somewhere on me.
Exactly where is the hard decision, initially it was going to be on either shoulder, but since I want to continue my Kirituhi sleeve up my arm this area is not possible. So what about my chest? Nope, my Ohm tattoo is in the way I don’t want to disturb it. Other options are my hips, rib cage or back.
The next decision is the style of swallow. I have been having a good look around the internet, sites like Pinterest are great for this, and realised there are loads of styles, but this one is my preferred choice.
I know exactly who to do this for me once I have decided where it is to go, Kneill Brown. This is right up his street.
